Blogiversary & My Top 5 Best Vegetarian - Vegan Cookbooks 2015

I celebrate my Blogiversary today.  Hip Hip Hooray.
2009
2010
2011
2012
2012-2013
2013
2014
2015
Blogging is not the same world anymore when I begun.  It has changed enormously - these days more about ratings, chasing awards, promotion of products, competition give aways and so on.  I am not of that blogging world. I am on the periphery of that world, though I must admit I been seduced sadly a couple of times when I should have stuck with my gut instincts and principles.  I miss honest and down to earth blogging.  There have been times when I have had to remind myself of the reasons I set my blog up in the first place as I haven't enjoyed it so much over the past couple of years.  I have to make blogging succeed for me. And I shall as I enjoy my blog space.  I will continue with my blog adventures and share what inspires me, what I create at home in my kitchen.  Its also a way for me to stay in touch with friends afar and loyal readers, as well as meeting new bloggers, so it is with this vain that I continue to blog when I can.

Anyway I don't want this to be a rant, but a personal Celebration of sorts.   I launched my blog Allotment2Kitchen in 2009 mentioning some of my most thumbed through Vegetarian and Vegan cookbooks.   This year I thought I would share 5 Best Vegetarian and Vegan Cookbooks from 2015.  Its very different from the other lists you'll find.  No apple polishing, no - just my honest opinion for what it is worth.  I will write more about the cookbooks in the months to come, but here are my recommended picks from 2015:

  3. Happy Blogaversary! I have lots of favourite cookbooks from 2015, but my fav veggie ones are Vanilla Black and also Mildreds, with fab for different reasons - Mildreds for everyday cooking and Vanilla Black for special. I love the first Prasad book, I should probably invest in the 2nd one too... So many cookbooks! Thanks for all your blogging, I love it!

    1. Thank you so much. I won Mildred's and have cooked from it not long ago, will share soon. I have not got my mitts on Vanilla Black as of yet, though I have flicked through it a few times when I was in the bookshop, hope to pick it up this year. I love Prashad first book too, the second is just as good.

Your right there are so many vegan cookbooks now, but I look for the more interesting ones than those for beginners, but totally agree.

    1. I think it may be mine too. I keep meaning to make those maple mustard seitan strips, but every time I go to - lack of ingredients in my kitchen conspire against me, first it was the mustard, then the tofu...grrrr...I will make it this year for sure.

  8. Happy blogiversary to you! I love your little bloggy space, I've been blogging since 2009 too & I agree that it's totally different now, I enjoy blogs that are written by 'real people' but I quickly go off those blogs that suddenly feature loads of reviews and sponsored content, I like yours just the way it is :)

My favourite vegan cook book of 2015 was Peace and Parsnips by Lee Watson.

I am so pleased you agree with my perspective on blogging, its appreciated. Sadly I don't go by those blogs much now either, for the same reason - its just so off putting.
I have Peace and Parsnips too. Have you been inspired to cook anything from it yet?

    1. Some good cookbooks always get lost in the background with people favouring those endorsed by celebrities or those so called green grain princess. So I hope you get an opportunity to flick through them at the bookshop and decide for yourself.

  12. Happy New Year Shaheen - I know what you mean about blogging changing but it always cheers me up that there are still old style bloggers who wrote from the heart rather than just for "page hits". Am so glad you are still hanging in with your blogging and enjoying your cookbooks

    1. Thank you so so much Johanna, You know it means a lot coming from you too as I know you understand where I am coming from and You know it is one of the reasons I keep coming back to your blog again and again whereas others I used to visit, well truth is they don't come by and neither do I as much as I used too - our blogs have changed. I am going to make a lot more of my cookbooks this year and cook from them.

  14. Congrats on the milestone. I sure enjoy your blog, partly because of its humility, which would be lost in that other world of blogging...and we'd be poorer for it. I have a "friend" who keeps trying to nudge me into letting her help me make money through my blog. That isn't what I do it for. Its for me. I am all the more pleased its helped me find others who are similar. I've not laid hands on ANY of the five books you mentioned. I shall have to remedy that.

    1. Oh Thank you so so much. Really really means a lot to me.
These books are what I would call advanced vegetarian cookbooks, not for beginners and with real food - maybe that is why I like them. Hope you get a chance to flick through them, please don't buy them without seeing first - Street Vegan has lots of faux meat dishes and if your not into that, then it may not appeal.
