Five Welsh Castles and a Handsome Dragon

I am looking forward to my  holidays, however when the time comes we won't be venturing far.

So I am dreaming of dragons and castles.

 Did you know that Wales has more castles per square than any other county in the world, apparently it is so.   Over the years, we have visited our fair share of fantastic castles in Wales, Wales really is a land of legends, so this Friday I am sharing five.
Harlech Castle  -  where I was most most free. I  met my now husband in the seaside town of Harlech, so I will always have a fondness for the place.

Caerphilly Castle
Conwy Castle in the background.
Chepstow Castle
And finally, Cardiff Castle 
With its rather magnificent Animal Wall.  I love this city.

    Love Cardiff -we lived there for 15 years in the 1980s and 90s. Our daughter got married at Castell Coch last summer - magical day (rained,of course!)

      I've yet to go to Castell Coch, driven past it many times. I hear the grounds are covered with wild garlic in the Spring, a visit is planned soon.

    I'd love to see all of these castles. I have been to Conwy and stayed at a B&B right next to a castle wall. You live in a beautiful part of our world.

      Thanks Johanna. Oh I should have written that sentence a little more clearly, I met him in the seaside town of Harlech, not in the castle itself - though we have both been in castle together too. Nope he wasn't wearing chain mail :)

    I have been to Cardiff castle with its beautiful interiors and Chepstow but the others are on my to do list. Love the stone creatures. Have a great weekend. Barbara

    Visiting Wales and seeing some of these amazing castles is high on our list of holiday options. In fact, we were going to come in March, but are now doing a shorter break in the Forest of Dean - almost at the border though so we may make it across for a day!

      Yes Kari almost at the border maybe you will make it as far as Cardiff - it has changed so much in the last 10 years - thriving and a lot more hop and diverse in every way. I've been to Forest of Dean on a school trip and have to be honest don't remember much about it, though we have driven through it many times. Hope you have a super time when you come and hope it doesn't rain too heavy, though rain it will - it is Wales after all.

    I love the castles here in Wales, up to now we have only visited a couple, Caernarfon, Beaumaris and Conwy, which we've been to a couple of times ... well it would be rude not to we live so close ;-)

      I know there are so many to visit. True it would be rude not to visit those that are nearby. We passed a lot of castles when we drove through North Wales to South Wales in 2011 - 2012 when we were moving down, but we didn't stop at many, we will visit them one day though.

    Lovely! I've enjoyed your post. I have been to four out of five of the castles you feature (not been to Caerphilly). We visited Harlech last year but didn't spot the dragon - now I have a reason to go back and find it:)

    The only one I've visited so far is Harlech, while on a camping trip at Shell Island. Loved it though, and our kids also loved the little traditional sweet shop in the town. Nice photos 😊

    I didn't know that fact about Wales having the most castles. But I'm not surprised. One day I will get to visit Wales--it's on my bucket list!
