Did you know that Wales has more castles per square than any other county in the world, apparently it is so. Over the years, we have visited our fair share of fantastic castles in Wales, Wales really is a land of legends, so this Friday I am sharing five.
Harlech Castle - where I was most most free. I met my now husband in the seaside town of Harlech, so I will always have a fondness for the place.
Meet Dewi - The Welsh Dragon guarding Harlech castle in the background.
Caerphilly Castle
Conwy Castle in the background.
Chepstow Castle
And finally, Cardiff Castle
With its rather magnificent Animal Wall. I love this city.
I am sharing these Five Castles with Five on Fridays hosted by Amy at Love Made My Home. and Friday's Fave Five with Susanne.

Love Cardiff -we lived there for 15 years in the 1980s and 90s. Our daughter got married at Castell Coch last summer - magical day (rained,of course!)
ReplyDeleteI've yet to go to Castell Coch, driven past it many times. I hear the grounds are covered with wild garlic in the Spring, a visit is planned soon.
DeleteYou'll love it - especially if the sun's shining in through the windows.
DeleteI have no doubt I will, it is apparently one of the most magical castles in Wales.
DeleteFive great castles! I always enjoy seeing some history and architecture. Thank you for joining Five On Friday, Happy Valentines! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Amy, sorry its a bit of a lazy post - but some of the castles do have a significance for me. Happy Valentines to you too x
DeleteThey are all so wonderful! If only their walls could talk. happy weekend, Tammy
ReplyDeleteSuch a good point Tammy - if only their walls could talk what stories they would tell!
DeleteLovely! I've seen Cardiff, but that's it. I'd love a chance to go back and see more. Visiting from Friday's fave five today. Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you Joyce, I don't know when you went to Cardiff but its changed so much in the last 10 years.
DeleteI loved seeing photos of the castles in Wales. I'm stopping by from Five on Friday.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda, I will come on over to repay the compliment.
DeleteThese are amazing historical sites. I have never been to Wales but maybe one day. It looks like a beautiful place. Wishing you the best, Pat :)
ReplyDeleteHi Pat, maybe one-day you will visit Wales - totally recommend North Wales.
DeleteI'd love to see all of these castles. I have been to Conwy and stayed at a B&B right next to a castle wall. You live in a beautiful part of our world.
ReplyDeleteVisiting from Five on Friday...
Thanks Ellen, Yes I have been lucky.
DeleteFabulous castles! I must go inside Cardiff castle one day, it looks somewhat unusual. :-)
ReplyDeleteI've been inside Cardiff Castle, but some of the others are my favourites.
Deletewhat a fun post but you now have me curious about how you met your husband - was he wearing chain mail :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Johanna. Oh I should have written that sentence a little more clearly, I met him in the seaside town of Harlech, not in the castle itself - though we have both been in castle together too. Nope he wasn't wearing chain mail :)
DeleteYou are so lucky! I adore castles but have never been to one. :(
ReplyDeleteHow sweet to have met your now husband in a castle. :D
Thank you for sharing these photos.

Thank you Adi. I should have written that sentence a little more clearly, I met him in the seaside town of Harlech, not in the actual castle itself, still romantic for me!
DeleteWhat wonderful photos. We actually have been to your 5 castles, but it's been awhile so really enjoyed seeing them again.
ReplyDeleteFantastic Mac n Janet.
DeleteWe hope to visit others, including in Scotland - but I chose to share these this Friday.
I LOVE all the castles and the dragons too! Oh how I would adore to get to visit Wales! (Dragon pie pastry...just too cool!)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Marie. I made the Dragon Pie pasty a long time back, easy with a cookie cutter.
DeleteI have been to Cardiff castle with its beautiful interiors and Chepstow but the others are on my to do list. Love the stone creatures. Have a great weekend. Barbara
ReplyDeleteThank you Barbara. Yes the stone creatures are a marvel. I hope to visit other castles in Wales too. Have a super weekend too, hope its not raining where you are - it is here.
DeleteVisiting Wales and seeing some of these amazing castles is high on our list of holiday options. In fact, we were going to come in March, but are now doing a shorter break in the Forest of Dean - almost at the border though so we may make it across for a day!
ReplyDeleteYes Kari almost at the border maybe you will make it as far as Cardiff - it has changed so much in the last 10 years - thriving and a lot more hop and diverse in every way. I've been to Forest of Dean on a school trip and have to be honest don't remember much about it, though we have driven through it many times. Hope you have a super time when you come and hope it doesn't rain too heavy, though rain it will - it is Wales after all.
DeleteI love the castles here in Wales, up to now we have only visited a couple, Caernarfon, Beaumaris and Conwy, which we've been to a couple of times ... well it would be rude not to we live so close ;-)
ReplyDeleteI know there are so many to visit. True it would be rude not to visit those that are nearby. We passed a lot of castles when we drove through North Wales to South Wales in 2011 - 2012 when we were moving down, but we didn't stop at many, we will visit them one day though.
DeleteLovely! I've enjoyed your post. I have been to four out of five of the castles you feature (not been to Caerphilly). We visited Harlech last year but didn't spot the dragon - now I have a reason to go back and find it:)
ReplyDeleteOh Rosie, that is so cool to know 4/5 ain't bad. Hopefully Caerphilly will be ticked in the not to distant future.
DeleteLove your castles and dragons, Wales does have a lot of castles. Great post.
ReplyDeleteJill
Thanks Jill.
DeleteYou're blessed to live near such beautiful scenery! Maybe someday I will get to visit a castle :) I hope you can stop by:

Colletta
I certainly am Colette, I hope you get to visit some of them - some day.
DeleteThe only one I've visited so far is Harlech, while on a camping trip at Shell Island. Loved it though, and our kids also loved the little traditional sweet shop in the town. Nice photos 😊
ReplyDeleteHi Sarojini, Yes i remember you telling me that before. I don't know if the sweet shop is still there, lots of changes.
DeleteI've always wanted to visit a real castle.
ReplyDeleteHopefully one day you will!
DeleteI didn't know that fact about Wales having the most castles. But I'm not surprised. One day I will get to visit Wales--it's on my bucket list!
ReplyDeleteHi Willow, hope you get to tick it off your bucket list One day in the not too distant future.
DeleteI love Wales too,...I haven't been there where you visited though,....would love to get the chance in the future! Your special pastry sides look adventurous too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sophie, good to hear from you and read your lovely comments.
