I can't remember the last time I had a bunch of flowers given to me, but I do remember the last time I had a bunch of Purple Sprouting Broccoli. Today. Freshly picked from the garden early this afternoon.
I mentioned last week that the neighbours fence had come down, a day or two after writing that post the strong gust of winds had knocked our pergola sideways that sadly it now has to come down for safety reasons. We spent a little time in the garden today trying to get it down. We have removed most of the stems from the climbing flowers, but the rest of it will be done next weekend. I am also hoping to get some of the garden dug over with a little help from nephews next week. I am planning to bribe them with home made Welsh Red Dragon vegetarian burgers and wedges. Any help we get next week will be a bonus and if the weather is kind too, then it will be a good weekend.
I am sharing this small harvest with Daphne's Dandelions who hosts Harvest Mondays.
Yum - that gorgeous psb is definitely something to celebrate! That's so sad about the pergola - I hope you get your good weather next week so that you can get down to business in the garden.
ReplyDeleteThank you Margaret. Yes, very disappointed about the pergola :( but on the plus side, it may freeze up space for other things.
DeleteWell I think that is the best bunch of flowers you could wish for. Daffodils are so COMMON, you know...!
ReplyDeleteYour so right Mark x
DeleteBeautiful! And better than flowers. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Michelle
DeleteRats! Sounds like it might be time to sink some concrete footers and set the pergola base into the cement ... nasty winds! Love your pretty bouquet au broccoli!
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan, we did have concrete footers to set the pergola that was only up for 6 years, so one of the neighbours say, but the winds have been harsh recently and set to get worse, so its best it comes down.
Deletea beautiful bunch...good in salads, hot or cold, steamed lightly on their own, with other veggies....endless!!
ReplyDeleteThank you gz.
DeleteThose do make a pretty bouquet. And they match your sweater too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Daphne. Yes, the sweater, it is a slouch of a sweater too.
DeleteIts a beautiful bouquet! And yummy, too, I bet.
ReplyDeleteYes it does make for a pretty bouquet.
Deletewhat a beautiful bouquet and a beautiful photo - I love how you found a jumper to match the purple hues - really lovely
ReplyDeleteIt so is :) We have plenty more in the garden, being enjoyed simply - steamed. The lounge around top, honestly was a bit of a coincidence, but it worked
DeleteMuch better than flowers, especially at this time of the year when most flowers will have come from overseas :) they're really big florets too ( if that's the right name), yum.
ReplyDeleteSo agree, other than the daffys lots of flowers are from overseas. I agree the florets are big, its just a shame they lose their colour when steamed :( still cannot get fresher than your back garden.
