This one fortunately is one of the biggest, I think it may be the one called Sunzilla sunflower. The sunflowers in the garden have been hit and miss.
Just look how exquisite the centre is - I've never seen anything like it before, so detailed and intricate.
First of the Chantenay carrots - not so short and stubby though, tasted wonderfully carrots though served as part of a vegetarian Sunday Roast DinnerSome used in a savoury Kale and Cheddar Cheese muffins.
Some as individual Colcannan Cakes. I am sharing this blog post with Harvest Monday where vegetable growers from around the world share homegrown fruit and vegetables with Dave from Happy Acres.

Those muffins look good.

DeleteBeautiful sunflower, like a pincushion! We really must grow kale, it’s such an attractive plant
ReplyDeleteThank you Belinda. Yes I agree. Yes do grow kale, but cover it from those horrid cabbage white butterflies.
DeleteI bet that Sunzilla sunflower has lots of seeds!
ReplyDelete:) Indeed, hope to save some
DeleteLovely garden as always - I love your observance of the middle of the sunflower - these flowers are about so much more than petals! And I am quite taken by the starkness of the photo of the colcannon cakes - I rather fancy these with purple cabbage
ReplyDeleteThank you Johanna.
DeleteI agree with you on the colcannon cakes, i too would rather make them with purple cabbage and have done so in the past. See here
