Mid October in My Kitchen

My blogging is non-existent these days and it is truly because i am finding myself tired after work.  I am still working from home which does have its benefits, but it can also be tiresome staring at the computer for work; and then for some of your hobbies.

Anyway, here are some things in my kitchen that i wanted to share.
We picked up these Welsh pottery pots whilst on holiday in parts of mid and North Wales that we have not explored before; as well as parts we wanted to revisit once again.  The first piece of pottery (from left to right) translated is for butter, then middle one for salt and the last - marmalade. They were second hand from antique style shop.  It was D that spotted them.
Also from our holidays, a compulsory holiday Welsh magnet - Cwtch mean hug or cuddle
I was reminded of Johanna from Green Gourmet Giraffe who often makes tiffin with her daughter Sylvia and then shares on her blog, it was with her in mind that i was tempted and could not resist picking this up from a Deli whilst on holiday in Wales. It was rather scrumptious too.
I also picked up Tortes de Acette - Spanish Olive Oil crackers, Vegan Jerky, Hemp Pate and a Mango and Chilli Dressing .
We also harvested the last of the courgettes.
Homegrown colourful tomatoes are coming to an end.
I made Meera Sodha's recipe for the Tomato Pilau which has become rathe popular in our home and a way to use up homegrown cherry tomatoes.
I also made this Cinnamon and Cherry Tomato Koshari that i bookmarked from The Vegetarian Society magazine.  It was okay, but i don't think i'd make it again.
Our homegrown raspberries are pitiful this year, we are only picking a handful.
I went over to see my nephew and he gave me a jar of Fortnum & Mason Pickled Cornichons that was gifted to him in a food hamper, but he was not too keen on these (image to be shared).
I also made a pumpkin tart.  Although the pastry is made from scratch, the filling came out of a tin.  It was pretty good, that I am hoping to make it again toward the end of the month for Halloween, well any excuse to eat cake.
Once again, I may not have loads of new things to share in my kitchen, but I am always happy to join in with In My Kitchen series hosted by Sherry's Pickings with my home grown produce and homemade eats.

    1. Thank you Sherry. I do live in Wales, but there are parts of Wales that i have to explore, as well as parts of Wales that i do like to revisit. I hope your healing well. Christmas will be here in not too long, just wait for Halloween and Bonfire Night to pass.

  5. I haven't had energy for blogging either lately. I try to improve, but think that my dishes are currently not so inspiring. I do cook a lot, but the same things...

The Welsh souvenirs are really nice and it's great that you still have some own harvest to cook with. That tomato pilau looks so tasty!

Have a nice rest of October!

    1. Hi there, yes we do seem to be in the same boat for lack of energy for blogging, but for dif. reasons. Abd yes, falling on cooking the same dishes mostly for ease.

  6. Lots of nice things in your kitchen - with your garden you always seem to have lovely produce in your kitchen - i love the sound of that pilaf - I have some lovely cherry tomatoes from the farmers market. Cute pottery. "Cwtsh" reminds me of Stella (if you know the tv show). I'd love some of that tiffin and feel pleased I helped you to be swayed to eat such a delicious slice. I've never heard of buying pumpkin pie filling in a tin but it sounds convenient. Hope you are doing ok - are you working at home ongoing - I am hoping to get back to the office in a few weeks but I am a little nervous about talk of opening back up after so long in lockdown.

    1. Thank you Johanna. The garden is winding down now, with very little now. Yes, i know the TV show (wink wink)Oh i did not buy pumplin pie filling, just the cooked pumpkin in tin. i added all the spices and double cream to the filling. I am still working from home, but had to go into a city in England to meet some new colleagues. It was anxiety inducing on so many levels.

  7. Amazing that you have courgettes still! And this time I’m envious of your tomatoes after our blighted year.
I too am making a pumpkin tart, but I’ve bought the case and will be making the filling (so goodness knows what it’ll taste like!)

    1. Thank you Belinda. All the courgettes are gone now. We do still have tomatoes in the greenhouse and will harvest the last lot, before stripping the greenhouse proper for Winter. Look forward to seeing your pumpkin tart, your pumpkin filling i already know will be fab, for a start its home grown pumpkins!

    1. Thank you so much. Oh my fur kid is growing up and has certainly developed a really friendly character, but loud on days because he always wants to be out wanting to play.

  9. The pots are a nice antique-store find. I find it odd that the salt container is larger than the marmalade container. Good that your garden is still productive.

    1. Thank you Mae, i do feel that they were expensive though - more mass produced i think, but still - liking them. Yes, i agree with your observation re teh salt pot v the marmalade pot sizes.

  10. Any excuse to eat cake indeed!!! Thanks, as always, for the lovely exposure to Welsh culture/language. I had to google tiffin, as that's totally new to me. Too bad about the raspberries. Our golden raspberries did very well, but after several years of disappointing red raspberry crops we've finally decided to rip them out and let the golden raspberries take over. The jam certainly doesn't look the same, but they taste the same so...I'll take the greater productivity!

It's nice to hear from you, but I can certainly understand one feeling a little worn down from overexposure to "screens" all the live long day. I hope you're well!

  11. Thank you Beth. more cake as we have ripening bananas in the kitchen. Golden raspberries sound wonderful, i have only ever had them one = may have blogged about it - don't remember. Yeah agree with disappointing red raspberry crops, i think we may need to start over too. As they taste diluted. Golden raspberry jam sounds fascination that i'd love to taste. And Thank you for the warm words re my lack of blogging, yes i must admit i have become a part-time blogger, but i will dip in and out when i can. Life is certainly not the same and there have been many changes around me of late.
