Stepping out into the city

So we went into Cardiff city centre this morning, the first time since lockdown, albeit for a short while.
I needed to get a new pair of walking shoes, the ones I had since 2005 - yes, really 2005 finally gave way.  We also saw this awesome piece of My Cymru My Shirt graffiti art in the centre of Cardiff making the rounds on social media, that it gave us another reason to go into Cardiff.  I'd love to have sought out the others dotted around the city, but the streets were getting busy. The artwork is based on actual people living in Wales and is an attempt to acknowledge and celebrate Wales multiculturalism.
It was not easy navigating the first time with a 3 month puppy, who was most excellent by the way and got so many admiring glances and compliments.  I was quite nervous, especially going into the shops. Then breathing with my face mask on blurred my specs with steam, making looking at products and items tiring and uncomfortable, that i just rushed, grabbed what i came for and got out.  I must say, its not an experience i wish to revisit in a hurry, so thank goodness clothes shopping is not my thing. But i do miss going to the food market and foodie shops and browsing, but i can wait and make do with comfort and easy homely and comfort food for now.

The atmosphere in Cardiff was a bit sombre too, as the Welsh Dragons - Wales are out of the Euro 2020. Had we come into Cardiff yesterday - Saturday - Wales vs Denmark, the pre-match atmosphere would have been more jovial. Not so much today.
Anyway, here's my puppy all tangled in Welsh bunting, he's a bit of a trouble maker.

  1. My second-best Birkinstocks completely wore out today. They date from the 1990s, so I guess I'm a more avid shoe-keeper than you are! The pandemic definitely reinforced my feeling that shopping online beats going into stores. Though shoes may need in-person prchasing as you say.

    1. Mae, i also have a pair of Doc Martens from my University days mid 1990 that are still in excellent condition, but i haven't worn them, guess that is the reason they are still pretty pristine.

  2. Nice you could go there - but there must have been so many things you would have liked to see. (I quite enjoyed looking at some city street art as we came out of lockdown when it was still pretty quiet.) And I know the feeling of foggy glasses with the mask on - I get to work like that at the moment on my days in the office. Nice to your puppy could go with you - hope there are some fine adventures ahead with him! Did you need to replace your walking shoes because they got a lot of steps during lockdown?

    1. Yeah, it was a tentative visit. We stayed away from the High Street, and that is where the bookshop is located. To answer your question, no - they just starting to fall apart that i just needed new ones, now that i am doing more walking - i hardly went out during lockdown, hence i've put on the weight and the puppy walking is helping me get exercise (and maybe lose some weight)

  4. That is one cute Welsh pup you've got wrapped up there! Masks and specs are bad combo for sure. I'm glad you got what you went for at least! That is some remarkable art, too. What a really neat project--sports is such a powerful influence on so many people and I appreciate it being used as a tool for unity and good.

  5. Ooh, your puppy is so sweet. He can’t possibly be trouble (haha, I joke. I bet he’s into everything!)
The graffiti art is brilliant, but I don’t envy you going into a city. I look forward to visiting Oxford one day, but will happily put up with Hungerford for the time-being.
Happy to see you back x

    1. Thank you Belinda. He really is a smart puppy.
Yeh, i didn't really want to go into the city. I don't feel ready yet, but am starting to take small steps towards the outside world, much of it courtesy of the puppy

  6. Aww the puppy is so cute! And too bad for Wales (and Finland) in the Euros. For us it was special, as we made it there for the first time ever, so even taking part was a bit of a fest.
