Odds and Sods around the kitchen

Once again, there is not much new in my kitchen, but i do love participating with In My Kitchen that Sherry's Pickings hosts, so I thought, i'd share some things in my cupboards that are all connected to the kitchen.
But before that let me share some Rosemary Salt I made.  I know, so easy.  On reflection though, i wish i had minced the homegrown dried rosemary.
I know Sherry likes her pottery, so do I.  I picked up these pottery glasses or cups from a charity shop a few years ago.  I don't know much about them, I think they may be Japanese cups, but cannot be sure, regardless I like them and have used them in the past once for mulled apple juice.

You can't find small bowls in these days, every thing is large, meaning extra large.  These old fashioned bowls are so dainty that I can hold them all in the palm of my hand.  I love them for their individual fruit patterns. They only every come out for special occasions for when i make trifle, which is quite rare, as trifle is something that I make that often.
These fruit printed glasses were also picked up a while back, again they are quite small that I'd go as far as describing them as perhaps designed for children, but as a vegetarian and someone who grows fruit and vegetables, I liked them.
I made these misshapen banana and peanut muffins, but its really the retro Sunflower Pattern Carlton cylinder shaped mug next to it that I am showcasing.  Again vintage, again small as in not your the large mugs you find these days.
Ceramic Colander or Strainer with plate sounds quite posh and they are if you see how much they sell for, but again  - I picked this vintage one with its plate from a charity shop a few years back.  I was attracted to it because i had not seen anything like it before.
Here are some rinsed colourful tomatoes that D came back with from the supermarket.
Whilst rummaging through one of the kitchen cupboards, i found tucked right at the back a small jar of chipotle paste that was used today along with the swede, carrots and potatoes at home to make a Stew.  I'll share it later in the week if you want to come on over again to check out the recipe.
I have been trying to cut down on coffee, unsuccessfully I would like to say. But here are four different drinks: Caramel Tea (the sweetness is just right), Raspberry & Lemon and Peach & Orange and finally, the Pure Fennel Tea that D has taken a liking too.
D is the only one who has been going to the supermarket.  The last time I went with him was very stressful.  We went very early to a supermarket, thinking we would miss the crowds and the disrespect of people who were still not abiding by wearing their face masks, but when we got there, the supermarket did not have a cashier tills open and everything had to be done through their 'un-manned' scanners that are not set up for shopping over £40.00.  It was absolute shambles.  Anyway, D has not returned back to that supermarket and went to another for a change, coming back with some ready made food stuffs for the freezer.  This Mushorom, Butternut Squash and Cranberrry vegan Wellington was one of them.  It tasted okay, but everything was a mush that you could not determine what vegetables went into it.

Anyway I am very much looking forward to seeing what is in your kitchen and thank you so much to Sherry for continuing to hosting the In My Kitchen Series through the pandemic and these frightening times in world politics.

  1. Your little glasses and dessert bowls are very cute. Many ceramicists make small bowls, which I love to use for ingredients ready to add to what I'm cooking. Small 4 ounce drinking glasses used to be called juice glasses here -- many people drank a small amount of juice each morning. This custom isn't as common so one doesn't see these glasses in shops as much. (Of course I mean shops a year ago, before I became a recluse!)

    1. Thank you Mae.
I am always in awe of your knowledge around food, the only places i have seen juice glasses are when i've had to stay in hotels at the breakfast bar in the morning.

  2. I do the same with my herbs at the end of the season; i toss all the herbs i still have in salt, all mixed up. Love it!
I love your pottery cups! Must be perfect for this fennel tea you have!
The colander with plate are beautiful too!
Sad that de Wellington from the store was not that good.
    Have a nice (nicer!) week!

    1. Thanks Ephee. Yeah, shame about the Wellington, serves me right though - I should be making my own.

  3. Do you miss going on the grocery shopping? I know this is a task many foodies enjoy, but for me, I do not. Matt always does our shopping--bless him!--even under standard conditions.

I love your little bowls! And yes! Everything is so HUGE now! Even coffee/tea mugs are becoming veritable jugs! Excellent retro bowls though. Ours are vintage as well, though not nearly so pretty.

I'll have to try that rosemary salt--minced, of course, at your suggestion.

    1. Hi BLD, Indeed I do, very much. But NOT the brand chain supermarkets, i miss the open fruit and vegetable markets moreso when my eyes could delight on the freshness and smells. I do love the retro bowls, they are my fave and quite delicate too. I am afraid my butterfingers man may slip one and smash, hope not

  6. I occasionally think of reducing coffee consumption, but it’s just so good. I buy various fruit teas (fennel is a fave) but invariably end up composting most of the unused bags months later!
I LOVE your ceramic colander/plate and your rosemary salt but your supermarket experience sounds awful 😞

    1. :) I've had two black coffees this morning!
Yeah, i donot want to relive that supermarket experience. D is going to the supermarket in a few days times as we are ow on everything and he really is not looking forward to it. It's the first time ive heard him vocalise his anxieties, esp as the virus is so virulent.

  7. Sorry about your disappointing visits to the grocers. But you have some lovely charity shop finds. I think the fruit glasses were designed for orange juice. A friend of mine collects similar glasses. And, the cabbage plates are definitely a real find.

  8. I love your vintage pieces - especially that sunflower mug! I hardly went to charity shops last year and it is nice to have them open this year. I am trying to go easy on kitchenware but I can't help looking when I get the chance. Those coloured tomatoes look cute like jelly beans. I really enjoy the twinings teas and am curious about the fennel one. And I like the sound of the wellington even if tasted like mush.

  9. Thank you. I am hoping to join in IMK this month too with the same approach. Pretty poor at blogging these days, as we seem to be eating the same o same o each week and not very exciting, as well as dark in the evenings for pictures.I do miss mooching about charity shops, graffiti art and the library. Made me smile your comparison to the tomatoes to jelly beans, and yes. I agree. D picked up some more on Friday when he went to the supermarket.
