These are just a handful of pictures, I managed to snap with my smart phone.
Castle Street is one of the busiest streets in Cardiff and it was a change from seeing it traffic free.
The broad beans have been gracing the dinner table the last two weeks. We have been eating them simply, briefly blanched in simmering water, drained and then tossed in a little seasoned extra virgin oil.Work has been keeping me busy, so I am not going to apologise for using shop brought gnocchi here. There have been days when I have just wanted to put something quick on the table for supper and this was on one of those evenings. I don't even have a recipe to share here either, as I eye-balled the ingredients and tweaked the flavours to taste, namely mint and lemon. I will admit though I did somewhat find shelling the broad beans a little therapeutic and satisfying.
It made for s nice light meal and one we could have sat out and ate in the garden, but no - we plonked ourselves in front of the TV to watch the Channel 4 News.
I am sharing this Simple Broad Bean, Gnocchi and Mint Salad with Eat Your Greens which I co-host with the Veg Hog, this month it is my turn; and Soup, Salad and Sammies hosted by Kahakai Kitchen
I love simple throw together meals that taste good. This one is a must-try. I just had pulled together veggie Korma and rice with what we call green bean, carrot, wax bean and broccoli. Hope your day is good.
ReplyDeleteThanks e. Your korma sounds good. I haven't had rice in a while...
DeleteThat extinction rebellion protest looks quite festive. And I know the feeling of buying shop made gnocchi because time is tight. Your gnocchi and broadbeans look very pretty and you might not have made the gnocchi but I think you deserve lots of bonus points for home grown broad beans.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, it had elements of a festival about it. tho' some people working in Cardiff were not happy as it was disruptive with traffic and delays. It was simple meal. We had something similar again today but with microgreens, how posh!
DeleteMmmm, freshly harvested broad beans deserve to be treated simply.
ReplyDeleteThanks Belinda. Not many left now, but the peas are beginning to come along now...
DeleteI'm not sure I've tasted broad beans -- maybe they have other names on other continents. I do like gnocchi though, wish I had bought some this afternoon!

Perhaps as you suggest they go under a dif. name - I think you may know them as fava beans.
DeleteThis is a very nice and light summer recipe and a good flavour combination. I'm so jealous of those broad beans.
ReplyDeleteThank you VegHog. It was nice to have fresh broad beans as we don't see them that often at the grocers or supermarket.
DeleteYou salad looks amazing. I love gnocchi and usually buy it pre-made too. ;-) Thanks for sharing it with Souper Sundays this week.
